Some Updates...

Still waiting for todays results and I have seen some videos of some of the front runner cars with what appears to be some serious damage. In the mean time here is a first hand report from team Sol Shine Alternatives...

This speed stage was in the mountains, most of it down hill with cliff biting corners that came fast even for our slower car. Within the first 10 minutes of this stage we saw that four of our fellow american race teams crash into rocky faces just off the road, and later on heard of two teams that had sailed clear off the road tumbling down small hills/cliffs(either way pretty scary, but luckily nobody was seriously injured). In the same area that we witnessed all of these crashes we came quickly around a sharp corner only to find a conctere bridge that was actually unfinished, dropped about 4 inches onto a rebar frame and scrapped the bottom of the car fairly well.

Ok, that's enough to get my attention. How do you map a race across an unfinished bridge?

Gary, I'm coming down next year to witness this!!!!

It's funny you should ask. This is typical of racing in Mexico and the next time you hear someone say "You never know what will be around the next corner." rest assured they mean it literaly.

Gary,

You are doing a great job keeping us updated. I'm a big fan of La Carrera and every year I sit in front of my computer during this time - even at wotk ;) - and search all the news of the race.
Thank You.
SC.

Hi Gary,
A pleasure to read your blogg everyday. I do envy you for going down to Aliende.
Next year we both run again.
I also check the internet several times a day for updates.
Seems to be going great for most of the gangs. Bills Falcon is going great. Maybe you should trade in Lucy for a Falcon....
Take care and my best to Jon

Sergio,

Thank you for your kind comments and I am glad you are enjoying the blog. As you know a lot of fans love La Carrera Panamericana and there is nothing more exciting.

Hello Ralf,

It's always great hearing from another competitor, especially one who drives a Ford. :)

I sure wish I could get results faster. This waiting is killing me. It's as if the entire world has been cut off as soon as everyone reached Mexico City and there is NO REPORTS from anyone! You would think as big as Mexico City is that there would be lots of reporting going on. On the other hand as you and I both know the teams are kept very busy and there isn't a lot of time to be sitting on the computer.

Jon and I look forward to racing with you again and believe me we miss it as much as you do my friend. But when we do meet again it will be in Lucky!

Sorry Gary, I did mean Lucky not Lucy.
And I agree, the updating from Mexico is not at the speed I want. As you say, from Mexico City it should be a breeze, specialy from the organization itself.
But it's Mexico, and we all know how that is!

Hi Gary! Carson’s daughter, Lauren, checking in. This suspense is killing me! Dad has been calling at night giving brief reports, mostly that they made it to the next town and are mostly in one piece…they are having problems with their power steering belt…again. Just wanted to tell you that you are doing an excellent job reporting. However, I find myself holding my breath when I bring up your site! Thank you for the great info!

I'm enjoying your blog! My brother-in-law, Michael Emery, is in the race. He and his Piloto, Joe Brubaker, are cruising in his Datsun Fairlady. He has a website where you can follow his progress and find out more about the race. He said he's going to try update about every other day. Check it out if you're interested: http://www.luchalibreracing.com

Good luck to all!

Kelly,

Thank you and I'm looking forward to more post on Michael's blog. I helped him prepare his car and I spent some time with him in San Miguel de Allende.

Thanks for the info. I am tracking the APPLE DUMPLING GANG; of RICHARD BAILEY & NATE WILSON. We are a racing family but have never been involved in this Mexico race. This is Nates first year and Richard has done this in the past. I too want to go next year to see it all. I loved seeing the pictures. YOUR ARE MAKING THE APPLE STATE WASINGTON USA PROUD.
