Taking No Chances

Because of political unrest, riots which included shootings, fires, and cars rolled over in the streets and so on, the 2007 La Carrera Panamericana did not start at Tuxtula Guteirrez but instead we started in Oaxaca. Even though Jon and I had to run a blocked off street in Oaxaca during a rather violent protest rally tearing down signs in the process, things were pretty safe.

It seems both politicians and La Carrera directors are taking no chances. I just recieved the following email from George and Tom.

Tomorrow we start our qualifying for the race which starts friday. Our cars are guarded each day and night by at least six armed guards with full automatic weapons,so we really don't worry about our cars.
The weather is hot and humid with cool nights we are in a valley surrounded by mountains.
